I have heard so many Nigerians, in different occasions, both big and small saying that retired Nigerian midfielder Okocha is much better than the Brazilian Ronaldinho. They often said that Ronaldinho learned most of his dribbling skills from him (Okocha); and that if Okocha was a European or South American he would have won World Best Player. Bla bla bla.
Ronaldinho might have respect for Okocha because he was younger when they were at PSG. Ronaldinho might have said he respected Okocha not that he taught him how to play football. He might also learn one or two techniques from the Nigerian international, but that's not enough reason to say he is better than Ronaldinho.
They forgot to know that Okocha didn't even win African Footballer of the year which is supposedly easy for him to win, given the fact that he is an African that played for the Super Eagles from 1993 - 2006.
Let me remind you that Ronaldinho won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d'Or.
No doubt, Austin Jay Jay Okocha was one of the finest players Africa has produced. Okocha was of the few Nigerians and African footballers, who showed great results playing in European clubs. A quick and skillful playmaker, who is widely regarded as the best Nigerian player of his generation and one of the greatest African players of all time, Okocha was known for his confidence, technique, creativity, and dribbling skills, as well as his use of feints in particular the step over. He was notable for a goal he scored against Karlsruhe, dribbling in the penalty box and slotting the ball past goalkeeper Oliver Kahn even going past some players twice. In fact Okocha is a joy to watch.
On the other hand, Ronaldinho is regarded by pundits, coaches and footballers as one of the greatest and most skillful players of his generation. Due to his ability to score and create goals, he is capable of playing in several offensive positions, on either wing or in a central position. Throughout his career, he has been deployed as a forward, a winger, although he usually plays as a classic number 10 in an attacking midfield role. Despite primarily being a creative player, he is an accurate finishing with either foot, both from inside and outside the penalty area, and is also a free-kick and penalty kick specialist. Throughout his career, Ronaldinho has been praised in particular for his technical skills and creativity; due to his pace, acceleration, agility, balance, ball control, and dribbling ability, he is capable of beating players when undertaking individual runs, often using feints in one on one situations.
Between Okocha And Ronaldinho Who Is The Best
In this article, I will compare them based on the following - skills and awards won (both individually and collectively) dribbling, free kick ability, goal scoring ability, and passing accuracy etc.Interestingly, both of them are midfielders and were famous for their dribbling and free kick scoring prowess. But Okocha scored 95 goals for club and country in 527 appearances. (That is 5.54 matches per goal ratio) Ronaldinho in other hand made 538 appearances and scored 200 goals for club and country. (That is 2.69 matches per goal ratio).
Let's take a look at the records they created.
Record created:
*Okocha was the most expensive African player in 1998 (£14 million). From Fernabahce to PSG also a record signing at PSG then.
*He won 11 individual award and 11 collectives trophies/medals.
Record created:
*Ronaldinho became only the third player to win FIFA World Player of the Year more than once (2006).
*Madrid fans paid homage to his performance by applauding and giving him a standing ovation,, so rare a tribute only Diego Maradona had ever been granted previously as a Barcelona player at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Ronaldinho stated, "I will never forget this because it is very rare for any footballer to be applauded in this way by the opposition fans.
He won a total of 27 individual accolades and 20 collective trophies/medals.
Having analyzed the statistics, abilities and features of both players, it is now left for you to choose the best to end this long argument.
