Suspected Nigerian fraudster Ramon and Instagram personality Raymond Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi has been denied bail in the United States.
You will recall his legal representative, Gal Pissetzky insisted that his client Hushpuppi is not a fraudster but an Instagram influencer who promotes brands online.
It would also be recalled that Gal Pissetzky accused the FBI of kidnapping his client.
"In my opinion, the FBI and the government here acted illegally when they kidnapped him from Dubai without any legal process to do so," Abbas' lawyer Gal Pissetzky said.
Gal Pissetzky had apply for bail for his client, and pleaded he should to leave with an electronic tag and also live with the uncle of a woman with whom he has a child with, but US prosecutors however, rejected the bail application on the grounds he (Hushpuppi) "could commit crimes with just a smartphone and an internet connection, and that he posed too much of a flight risk".
Reacting to the argument via video link, Gal Pissetzky said:
“He is loved and respected. He is a celebrity.
“I don’t see the reason why he would want to ruin his credibility in the world and his status rather than stay here and face this allegation.
“Anywhere he goes, people will know. Having grown up very poor in Nigeria, Mr Abbas is now paid to pose with high-priced items such as Louis Vuitton bags that people would buy after seeing his posts on Instagram.
“He is an influencer. That’s a job today, as much as it is hard to imagine. That’s a full-time job.”
It would be recall Abbas, popularly known as Huspuppi was arrested earlier in June alongside who's friend Olalekan Jacob Ponle, also known as Woodberry and 10 others by Interpol.
