Throughout last week Nigeria has been embroiled with protest which ranges from EndSARS, EndPoliceBrutality and EndBadGovernance etc. Well meaning Nigerians and celebrities took to the street to express their grievances against the alleged brutality, killings and illegal extortion of the Special Anti Robbery Squad aka SARS.
Twitter Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Jack Patrick Dorsey joined the protest. As a matter of fact, he created a Nigerian fist emoji to support the movement. Google, Premier League players like Raheem Sterling, Alles Telles, Tammy Abraham, Antonio Ridiger and some other players too numerous to mention here joined the protest.
But our own Big Brother Naija which is possibly the most viewed reality TV in Nigeria has never for in their own capacity protest against the unjust killings of the youth in the hands of the now defunct dreaded police unit known as SARS. BBNaija viewers/supporters are facing serious challenges in the country. The SARS police oppression and brutality on innocent citizens. Protesting for an immediate and permanent END to SARS but BBNaija organisation are mute.
The same youth that spend their time, money and data almost everyday to vote their favourite housemate. The same BBNaija that always pose as a distraction when the government is not doing their job. I am beginning to suspect that the organisers of Big Brother Naija are being sponsored by some government officials to distract Nigerians.
Now that is the time to support the youths who spend time, money and energy hyping and promoting the show Big Brother Naija is no where to be found. No tweet, no retweeting of anything that concern EndSARS or EndPoliceBrutality. It's so saddening and unfortunate that some gvllible youth will sheepishly watch BBNaija next year.
Same people gave over 900 million votes and made billionaires, yet they couldn’t reciprocate with a single tweet to support our struggle.
If BBNaija was still ongoing, I bet you nobody would’ve participated on the EndSars protest both online and offline. With time our mumu go do.
Fellow Nigerians, with same energy we uses in calling out celebrities and men of God that refuses to participate on the ongoing protests, let’s use same strength and time to call out BBNaija organizers too! Our Mumu never do?
Does it mean that they doesn’t give a damn about us? Does it mean they are only after our money?
