See Why EndSARS Protest May Lead To Revolution If Not Handled Properly By The Government

Throughout last week the topic of EndSARS has been trending in Nigeria. Well meaning Nigerians and celebrities have taken to the street to express their disappointment and grievances against the alleged brutality and illegal extortion of the Special Anti Robbery Squad popularly known as SARS.

The EndSARS protest is gaining momentum. Foreign media houses are reporting, international organisations like Amnesty International are monitoring the situation. Foreign Celebrities and personalities have lended and are still lending their voice. Twitter co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey created a Nigerian fist emoji to support the movement. Footballers too including Chelsea trio Tammy Abraham, Antonio Ridiger and Tomori, Raheem Sterling, Alex Iwobi, Osimhen etc. This is to show you how far the protest has gone. There are rumours making the round on internet that the Federal Government wants to deploy the military to stop 🛑 the EndSARS protest. Although this rumour has debunked by the military and has been tagged as fake news. I pray it is fake truly.

This protest have been initiated several times since 2017. All of those times, the government would swing into action, banning SARS only for the same police unit to resurface after few weeks and start abusing, extorting and extrajudicially killing innocent Nigerians again.

But on 8th october, 2020, the youths staged another SARS protest, as usual, the government swings into action, banning the dreaded police unit and promising to reform the police force. But the youths are not taking it this time. They don't trust the government, our government. Protest continued. Just as predicted, few days later the Inspector general of police anouced a new outfit to replace SARS. But the youths are not taking it. They have realised that they actually wanted a better Nigeria. Impunity is the canckerworm that have eaten deep into the system.

SARS have been disbanded, but the protest have just began to grow. More millions of youths are coming out. The protest have spread all over the country. It is not stoping anytime soon. As it stands, young people have realised that they all want the same thing - a better Nigeria.

To use force at this point to handle this peaceful protest may lead to bloodshed and anarchy. It is better to dialogue with the youths. Its better to use intelligence than to use violence. It is better to end bad governance. It is better to end corruption. It is better to have a united Nigeria where human lives and properities are protected. It is better to have a united Nigeria where all ethnic groups are treated equally with equity and justice.

We have no idea where we are heading to with this protest but revolution is just one of the possible destination if not well handled. Nigeria must be great again.
