Yes. Messi’s departure is a huge blow no doubt. However, to be frank, the player isn’t leaving at his peak. Barcelona last won the La Liga in 18/19 season and they have been struggling for form thereafter in my opinion. The club needed to rebuild and get ready for life without Messi.
They may still have a strong team on paper now but morale is certainly not at its optimum level and I’m also not sure if Koeman is the man to lead the Catalan club to their 27th La Liga.
Barcelona may go through a struggle before finding their bearings again. However, parting ways with Messi is probably the first step towards the right direction for Barca.
If they can play some nice football and win some games, it’ll show the world that they’re still Barcelona regardless. And by getting rid of Messi, it only amplifies the impact that they are doing it without their serial Balon D’or winner and it’s still business as usual.
Every misfortune brings a silver lining and in Barca’s case, it could be seeing the other players stepping up to prove that they’re worth the penny paid. And more importantly, the promotion of academy players while Barca continue to search for that generational winner to mix experience and youth like how they did with Ronaldinho and Messi.
Barcelona will still survive and life will still go on. It’s not as if Messi is the only top player in the club. The most important thing for Barca now is not to dwell in the emotions and sort out the internal issues such as tactics, players morale, readiness of the academy graduates, how to rid of players that are no longer in the plans, etc… This will define if Barcelona will stand strong after Messi departs.
