Pep Guardiola has now lost six UCL semifinal ties in his career, the joint-most. He has not won the UCL since 2011. He failed with Bayern in his three-year stint. And now with Man City, he hasn't delivered the UCL in six years. Though Man City have dominated domestically, they have never been able to win the biggest competition in club football

Yaya Toure's agent cursed Guardiola 

1. They were thrown out of the competition in QF by 2016-17's exciting batch of AS Monaco first.

2. City were then outclassed by Klopp's Liverpool in QF 2017-18.

3. Next, they lost on away goals against a peak Tottenham Hotspurs once again in UCL 2018–19 QF.

4. In 2019–20, they were knocked out by Oly Lyon of all teams in QF. Pep's decision to play 3-man defence backfired. Why experiment in a one-legged QF?

5. In 2020–21, they reached the summit clash but were defeated by Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea. Pep chose to bench Fernandinho from the start and sub off KDB early and both decisions were a by-product of his overthinking.

6. City lost in 2021–22 against Real Madrid in SF despite having a first-leg advantage.


In the last few years, Man City had a net spend  that nobody could better except their noisy neighbors Manchester United. I don't know what and how much time Pep needs to win UCL. Thomas Tuchel took little less than four months to win UCL with Chelsea.

Pep has probably built the greatest squad in football history. His team has the ability to dictate every game, and annihilate the opposition. It has gone wrong for him every time.


UCL is a competition that is not always won by the best team, but by the team which performs better on the given day. He always over thinks these big games. He could have kept it simple but too much sophistication cost him at least three UCLs. It’s as if City is cursed in this competition.

Could it be that the African Curse On Pep Guardiola Is Working Against Him ? 

You will recall that Dmitri Seluk, the agent of Yaya Toure, once said that Pep Guardiola will not win the Champions League again due to his treatment of the midfielder at Manchester City.
