See Reasons Why Harry Maguire Has Been Unfairly Criticized

Is he Premier League material? Yes, is he world class or what Manchester United needs? Maybe not. But I do think he sometimes does get unfairly criticized for Manchester United results.

Look is he good enough for Premiership? I have to say yes because he’s now been a premier league player for a number of years, he’s was pivotal with Leicester and prior to that was also one of Hull top players. Overall he’s spent now eight seasons within the Premiership. Now I don’t believe that’s by luck nor fluke. He’s also scored 11 goals during that time and considering he’s CB, it’s not within necessarilythe DNA of CB to score goals and therefore not bad.

But let’s look at his stats and compare to other Premier League CB from other so-called traditional TOP6 clubs

• Harry Maguire. (30 games) Duels won 66%, Pass accuracy 86%, tackles won 62%, Interceptions 32 and Blocked shots 29.
• Thiago Silva. (32 games) Duels won 65%, Pass accuracy 93%, tackles won 66%, interceptions 44 and blocked shots 31.
• Benjamin White. (32 Games) 59% Duels won, 85% pass accuracy, tackles won 52%, interceptions 42 and blocked shots 24.
• Emerson Royal (31 games) 55% duels won, 82% pass accuracy, 65% tackles won, 22 interceptions and 2 blocked shots.
• Virgil Van Dijk (34 games) 74% duels won, 90% pass accuracy, 62% tackles won, 31 interceptions and 14 blocked shots.
• Ruben Dias. (29 games) 53% duels won, 93% pass accuracy, 73% tackles won, interception 23 and blocked shots 13!

So looking at those players and comparing them to Maguire, I think to be honest his stats aren’t necessarily that bad! Out of those players I’ve compared him to he’s 2nd in duels won, 4th in his pass accuracy, joint 4th with Virgil Van Dijk in tackles won with 62%, 3rd most in number of interceptions and 2nd in number of blocked shots. Now okay you might criticize the selection of players I’ve used however I would like to point all these players have played similar amount of games. I haven’t selected anyone who’s played disproportionately less or more.

Again does United need a better defender than Harry Maguire? Maybe, but is Maguire Premier League proven? Yes, absolutely.
