Manutd Set To Offload Alex Telles After He Reportedly Fought With Team Mate
Alex Telles is the latest Manchester United player to be sacked following an altercation on the training ground.
The meeting with fiery adolescent phenom Hannibal Mejbri happened just days after United's 4-0 hammering at Brighton in the season's penultimate match. When the pair were separated, interim manager Ralf Rangnick was compelled to leave the training session early, as his authority over the United dressing room had completely dissolved.
Teammates were shocked as the 19-year-old Tunisian clashed with the veteran Brazilian, 10 years his senior, following a challenge. United was keen to downplay the incident and conceal the identities of the players involved. Telles and rising young star Hannibal are reported to have been involved.
The incident, which occurred at the conclusion of Rangnick's disastrous tenure at the club, was viewed as proof of the splits among a United dressing room that former player and Sky analyst Gary Neville described as "broken."
And, as United close in on a £13.5 million deal for Feyenoord left back Tyrell Malacia, it appears Telles' brief and sour Old Trafford tenure is coming to an end.
Telles, who joined United from FC Porto for £13.6 million almost two years ago, also had a spat with midfielder Bruno Fernandes, with film of an argument involving Fred appearing online. Telles and his colleague Brazilian were taking footage at United's Carrington training complex for a "A Day in the Life" documentary with Brazilian football marketing agency O Clube football."
Fernandes could be clearly heard telling the pair to “stop being ballers” and told them “you are here to play football not film it!” before telling the camera crew to “film my d**k!”
Telles has failed to reproduce his form at Porto, where he scored 23 goals in 160 games, after being signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United's defense conceded 32 goals in the 26 games Telles played last season, with Telles frequently chastised for poor positioning and attention. And he was frequently unimpressive as he filled in for injured England star Luke Shaw in the final six weeks of the season.
Even though his days appear to be numbered, the Brazilian great may still be useful to United.
United have been tracking Villarreal defender Pau Torres for months and would gladly use Telles and Ivorian defender Eric Bailly - a former player at the Spanish club - as bait to land the 25-year-old Spanish international, who is valued at £45 million. Torres is a target for United, but ten Hag is also interested in former Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, who is being pursued by Arsenal.
