Messi-Talented, Ronaldo-Hardwork? By Kingsley Ibeto...
For many years, the topic of Messi -talented versus Ronaldo- hard work has been a common issue in debates all around the world of football.
This topic has been argued by players, coaches, pundits and most commonly, football fans since both players came to limelight. It is a controversial topic because both players are judge based on their style of play and personal likeness for one another.
People are quick to say that Ronaldo is not talented but Messi is. This claim is not true because Ronaldo has been judged due to his body structure and personality on and off the pitch.
Former FIFA President, Sept Blatter once said "But this is the other side of football and that's good to have such commanders on the field also. Because you don't have the same attitude, and
that gives life to football and one has more expenses for the hairdresser than the other, but that doesn't matter …
"So I cannot say who is the best. The [Ballon d'Or] list will be published on Tuesday, and then the public will make the choice.
"I like both of them, but I prefer Messi."
This statement is purely base on personal likeness for Messi perhaps due to his "attitude" and "style of play".
Blatter have said the minds of people who love Messi like him without stating footballing reasons why Ronaldo is not talented. It is unfair and untrue to state otherwise.
People fail to understand that hard-working alone cannot take Ronaldo to the level he is now. As far as science is concerned both Ronaldo and Messi are talented.
In a game like football, where everything is fast paced hard work, dedication and determination are
extremely important, to keep up with the game, with the fitness. Like any other field there have been unrewarded geniuses in this game as well due to the lack of perseverance in such players. Therefore it isn't one or the other but a combination of both that creates football legends.
What takes them to the next
level is their work ethic. Both are known for their rigorous training regimes, excellent dietary habits
and effort into studying the game.
Talent can take a player very far but when combined with hard work, it will make a player that much better.
Quinton Fortune told Omnisport, "I was fortunate to play with him and see how obsessed this guy is with working hard in training and being so disciplined in how he wanted his body to be.
"He had the desire to win and his talent was unbelievable.
You get a lot of talented players who don't have the desire to do the work, but Ronaldo put in the work.
"A wonderful player. To have the combination of talent and desire, I think his desire probably got him to where he is today.
"He's got the ability but I've never seen anything like it, because every single day he came into training he was doing extra. Shooting, dribbling, step overs, going to the gym, wanting to be stronger, quicker. Just practice,
wanting to be better every single day.
Sentiments and personal likeness aside Ronaldo is naturally gifted so as Messi and some other goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders.
Ronald's carrier might be controversial but his glittering career speak volume. He has almost won every trophy available both at club and country level.
By the way, What is Talent?
According to Wikipedia, A Talent (or gift, or aptitude) is the skill that someone naturally has to do something that is hard. It is an ability that someone is born with.
People say they are "born with a
talent". It is a high degree of ability or of aptitude. Someone who has talent is able to do something without trying as
hard as someone who does not have a talent. Someone who has talent is called talented. Talented people as rule have many talents, for music , dancing , acting, sports, or other skills.
Even if someone has talent they still have to work very hard if they want to be very good at something. Some people become quite good at something even if they do not have much talent, but if they are willing to work very hard at the skill.
Being able to work hard towards a goal, consistently, despite hardship, is a gift.
Talent or Gift Begins from Childhood
At the age of eight, his father was an equipment manager at amateur team Andorinha. This is Cristiano
first play club. In 1995, Ronaldo signed with local club Nacional. Even at that age, Ronaldo was already recognized as a phenomenon - a kid who ate, slept and drank the game. After the winning ot the title, Ronaldo went on a three-day trial with Sporting CP.
Cristiano Ronaldo signed with Sporting Portugal in 2001. He became the only player ever to play for Sporting's under-16, under-17, under-18, B-team, and the
first team, all within one season. In the summer of 2003 Ronaldo amazes everybody with his skills with the ball in match against Manchester United. Ronaldo was offered to Barcelona for less than the €15 million Manchester United paid, but the Catalan club could not afford him at the time as the club had already spent its budget on other players.
