We Are Celebrating Slavery With The Names Of Our Towns In Nigeria - Reno Omokri

The pastor of the Mind of Christ Christian Center and Free Leah Sharibu convener, Reno Omokri has used his verified social media account to criticize  Nigerians that are applauding Europeans and Americans that are pulling down statue of slave traders.

He condemned Nigeria government for naming towns in some part of the country after some foreign names. Using Excravos and Forcados as examples, he said the former means "slavery" while the latter means "forced labourer".

See what he wrote on his verified social media account:

"In America and Europe they are pulling down statues of slave traders, and Nigerians applaud them. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, we have a town named Escravos, means slave in Portuguese. We also have another town named Forcados, which means forced labourer. If you doubt me, Google these towns and the meaning of their names in Portuguese. Are we a serious people at all? We literally are celebrating slavery with the names of our own towns and shouting Black Lives Matter. We are like a people suffering from cancer and leaving our cancer to help another man treat his headache!"

You will recall that the bronze memorial to Edward Colston situated in Bristol city centre since 1895, was torn down and dumped in Bristol Harbour during the Black Lives Matter protest.
