Some days ago Messi shocked 😲 the world of football after he reportedly told Barcelona management via fax 📠that he wants the Catalan club to trigger the clause in his contract that will allow him to leave on free transfer. But there is discrepancy in the said contract.
Barcelona are arguing that the date stated in the contract which would supposedly allow Messi leave for free has elapsed. The date reportedly stated in the contract was June. However, the season which was suppose to end in May didn't because of the change in fixtures due to coronavirus pandemic.
La Liga has released a statement backing Barcelona in Leo Messi contract battle: “Current deal is still valid and paying release clause for €700m is the only way out”. The statement reads in part.
The 33-year-old and his lawyers, however, claim that he can still activate the clause because the season was extended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Messi's departure will affect the Spanish La Liga. Even Real Madrid wouldn't want him to leave.
The La Liga executives and organizers know about this and they have immediately taken sides with Barcelona to prevent the now dreaded “Mexit”.
But it seems they can't ‘move a muscle' as regarding Messi's transfer. Its apparent that Leo is keen in moving to other side of the world 🗺. He has taking the first bold step by not showing up for coronavirus testing and pre-season training respectively.
La liga can't ever be the same without Lionel Messi.
They stand a lot to lose that's why La Liga president has come out to support Barcelona which only seems logical considering the devastating effects La Pulga exit will have on the league.
First and foremost from a financial standpoint its going to be total chaos for liga if Messi leaves Barcelona.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently said If Messi leaves Barça,he takes 90% of the fans with him- let that sink into your medula.
The viewership and TV right will drastically and astronomically drop, and in this post CoVid-19 depression, no league will want that to happen to them.
According to Forbes, Messi is the highest paid athlete in 2019.
Valencia striker Rodri Moreno left for newly EPL promoted side Leeds United; see how devastated that is to La Liga, they are already loosing it.
In 2017, La liga lost Neymar to French Ligue 1. In 2018, La liga lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Italian Serie A.
Now losing Messing to Manchester City or any other EPL clubis going to be the catastrophic for Barcelona and La Liga as well
These 3 players have helped to market La Liga and brought in lots of revenue from monthly viewership exceeding many millions.
And to finally lose the biggest of them all is going to be catastrophic, devastating and might make the Spanish la liga lose its A-list among top European leagues.
